The Tracker
Magazine - Vol 2 No. 1, Winter 1983
|
|
Tom Brown's Animal Track Averages The measurements given in this table can not be
found in any book. They are the averages of all those animal records that I have
kept over the past 20 years. All measurements are in inches unless otherwise
indicated. The dimensions for front and rear feet are listed as follows: 1-1/2 x
1-1/5, the length is the first number and the width is the second number. Please
keep in mind that these are only overall averages and the sizes will vary with
location and age of the animal, as well as type of soil and weight. These,
however, are a good general reference.
Webmaster's note:
The original data published in this issue was
incorrect, and was corrected in the next issue
(Volume 2, Nos.
2&3 - Spring/Summer 1983, pg. 4).
The correct information is presented on this website in both issues.
This data is also in the appendix of Tom Brown's Field Guide to
Nature Observation and Tracking. |
